The 7 Simple Steps to Discovering Your Purpose in Life That Will Change You Forever
What do I want to do with my life?
It’s a question all of us think about at one point or another…true?
It’s about living the freedom lifestyle, where you’re happy, content and fulfilled. The chances are you want to be able to do what you want, when you want, where you want, with whom you want, and as much as you want! For some, the answer comes easily. They have lightbulb moments flooding their conscious mind with idea after idea and they’re buzzing. They want to jack in their job, travel the world and be a nomad for a few years, or they want to set up a little online business in their bedroom…and that’s great.
For others, it takes a lifetime to figure out, and are still none the wiser.
Hands up if you know someone like that?
Maybe you’re worried that you’re not as good as the next person, and that you’re destined for a mundane life where you don’t leave a legacy.
You see, many people experience an imbalance, where they struggle to find a balance between their current life and their dreams…is that you?
They dream of a better life, stronger friendships and more courage, but believe that it’s just that…a dream!
Maybe you’re frozen by your inner voice that challenges you to be free and move on, but fear and logic stop you.
Are you held back by your limiting beliefs that make you feel like you’re not worthy or good enough?
Perhaps they leave you feeling like everyone’s judging you.
It’s not uncommon to be scared of the unknown and worried about financial problems if things don’t work out. If frustration, anxiety, doubt and a lack of self-belief are your companions in life, how much will you achieve?
The fact is, you can go through the motions and continue to do what’s comfortable and familiar without poking your head above the parapet.
You can live your life in that way if that’s what you’ve resigned yourself to believe…
But I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a little wiggly, jiggly part of you that wants to change.
Maybe there’s an overwhelming urge to be a better person and get more out of life.
Maybe you do want to travel more or set up your own business. Perhaps you just want more time, freedom, happiness and fulfilment in life, and need to improve your mindset to achieve those things.
You might be in a great relationship, but you want to make it even better, stronger and powerful so that you connect at a deeper level.
More and more people across the world are starting their own journeys of self-awareness, self-development and personal growth.
It’s a path that helps us to find and leverage our infinite ability to grow and learn as human beings.
So let me ask you a question…
Is it time to start yours?
I invite you to:
Discover who you truly are and fully commit to giving every aspect of your uniqueness to the world around you. This I promise you is your path to an extraordinary life.
When you follow that gem of wisdom, things change. Because if you want to live an extraordinary life, it’s imperative that you know who you truly are, and to do so you must explore who you truly are.
So if you’re on the road of life and somewhere deep inside, there’s a burning itch that leaves you feeling like “There has to be more to my life?”
Then perhaps you are seeking fulfilment too.
Go through these 7 simple steps to get clarity. They will change your life immeasurably by allowing you to find your true self, and in doing so, you’ll discover why you’ve been born into this great world.
Before we go any further, let me clarify.I’m not talking about the “self’” that others expect or want you to be or the self that acts a certain way to fit in and conform to what societies expect of us.
I’m talking about the true you—the you who wants to authentically express your unique and special qualities to the world in a way that gives you eternal peace and freedom.
By going through these stages, you will discover your unique passions, strengths, values, desires, and motivations which are all yearning for you to discover and embrace.
Remember…You have a unique purpose. Discovering the answers to these questions will allow you to align yourself with that purpose and bring real magic into your life…and it’s closer than you think.
Self-knowledge is the greatest knowledge that you will ever acquire and that so many people lack. It’s about self-discovery.
Why? Because your ability to understand your uniqueness will determine your ability to fulfil your potential, which in turn determines the nature and quality of your life.
The questions below are designed to help to know yourself deeply and find what is truly important to you. We all have potential; the questions are designed to help you find yours.
1- What are the things I’m most passionate about?
The first step to living a more fulfilling life is to think about the things that you’re passionate about.
Start by asking yourself some simple questions to begin uncovering your purpose and intentions.
- What do you love? (List everything about the world and the people in your life that you love)
- What fulfils you?
- What gives you a buzz of excited energy that sends shivers down your spine?
- What “work” do you do that doesn’t feel like work?
This can be absolutely anything: music, art, sports, drama, parenting, acting, animals, technology, cooking, writing, design, photography, teaching others, learning, watching movies…absolutely anything!
Within your love for these things lies your deep passion.
Dig deep and find those answers.Sometimes the answers will hit you right between the eyes within seconds. Other times it might take a few hours or days for some of those answers to drift into your awareness.
So give yourself the space to do this, there’s no need to rush…whatever happens will be the right thing for you.
The point is, figure out what you love doing, trust your gut instinct, then do more of it.
2- What are my greatest accomplishments in life so far?
Think about your past experiences and the things in your life you’re most proud of.
- Were they in your personal life? Your professional life?
- How did those accomplishments make you feel?
I bet it felt pretty special, right?
So why not try and emulate those experiences and feelings?
List any activities, hobbies, or anything else that you complete with ease and enjoyment.
- If you ran a big charity event and loved the feeling you had afterwards, start planning for another one.
- If you had the job of planning and running a friend’s wedding? Is it something you could do more of?
- If your son or daughter became a great guitarist because you taught them, then why not coach other kids?
- If you’ve been making cakes for friends on special occasions, why not expand and promote your talent?
- If you’ve build a few websites, why not freelance as a website designer for small home based businesses?
Get the drift?
To have accomplished these, you would have used some of your key strengths. See if you can identify why you succeeded. Within these lie your greatest strengths.
Continue to do the things that have been most fulfilling for you.
3. If my life had absolutely no limits, what would I choose to have and what would I choose to do?
Here’s where it starts to go up a notch.
Get your thinking cap on. Think about what you would do if you had no limits.
- If you had all the money and time in the world, where would you go?
- What would you do?
- Who would you spend time with?
- What would a typical day look like?
- Would you be working? If so, what would you be doing?
I know you’re probably saying that you’re not in that position at the moment and that you’re not a millionaire.
That’s absolutely fine.
This is a creative exercise designed to engage your imagination. It allows you to realise who you would truly want to be if there were no limits. By aligning with this, you can begin to work towards the life that you truly want to create.
Know that you wouldn’t have a desire if you didn’t also have the ability to fulfil it.
These answers can help you figure out what you want to do with your life. It doesn’t mean you need millions of dollars to be happy though.
What it does mean is answering these questions will help you set goals to reach certain milestones and create a path toward happiness and fulfilment.
Which leads to your next question…
4. What are my goals in life?
Goals are a key component to set up a future that you’re happy with. They give you direction, they give your subconscious something to grab hold of, and they give you the impetus to propel you forward.
So answer these questions:
- What are my personal goals? (what will you see, hear and feel?)
- What are my health goals? (what will you see, hear and feel?)
- What are my career goals? (what will you see, hear and feel?)
- What are my family goals? (what will you see, hear and feel?)
Once you figure out the answers to each of these, you’ll have a much better idea of what you should do with your life.
You can break them down further if you wish into 1 year, 5 year and 10-year milestones.
5. Whom do I admire most in the world?
Following the path of successful people can set you up for success. They can enrich your life, they can educate you, and they can connect with you emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
Think about the people you respect and admire the most.
- What are their best qualities?
- Why do you respect them?
- What can you learn from them?
Have you ever heard this?...It’s been said that you’re the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. So don’t waste your time with people who hold you back from achieving your dreams. Spend more time with happy, successful, optimistic people and you’ll become one of them.
6. What do I not like to do?
An important part of figuring out what you want to do with your life is honestly assessing what you don’t want to do.
- What are the things you despise or hate?
- What aspects of your current job do you not like?
Maybe you hate meetings even though you sit through 6 hours of them every day. If that’s the case, find a job where you can work more independently.
Maybe you don’t like commuting to work. If so, look for a job nearer to home.
If you don’t like being an employee and reporting to a boss, perhaps it’s time to set up your own business?
If you hate being stressed and always seem to have a short fuse, then maybe it’s time to try meditation or yoga, or long walks in the park or by the sea. Maybe you hate your routine life. If that’s the case, what can you do to add variety? Take up a new hobby? Start a new sport (ideally team based), Start evening classes to learn a new skill or language? If you’re with a partner, then maybe set up a date night once a week.
The point is if you want something to change in your life, you need to take action. Which leads to our final question…
7. How hard am I willing to work to get what I want?
Great accomplishments never come easy. If you want to do great things with your life, you’re going to have to put in the effort. That will probably mean putting in a few more hours than the average person to begin with, getting outside of your comfort zone and learning as much as you can to achieve as much as you can.
But here’s the cool part: it’s often the journey that is the most fulfilling part. It’s during these seemingly small, insignificant moments that you’ll often find those “aha” moments that help you to answer the question, “What do I want to do with my life?”
So take the first step toward improving your life. You won’t regret it. Take the time to answer these questions because they will change your life, they will give you clarity and set you on a new path, a new journey full of discovery.
The more that you can harness your passions, strengths, values, desires, and motivations into your days, the happier your life will become.
Discovering the deep wisdom of self-knowledge will ensure that your life is far more meaningful and fulfilling. I’ll leave you with one final thought…
“The answers you seek aren’t outside of yourself, they’re within.”
With much love
